Should i Hire a Professional or Buy Myself a Welder?
I'm refurbishing a 1973 beetle that needs some quite major welding due to rust. its mainly under the wheel arch so is not holding the car together but i've never done any welding before. Should i go ahead and buy/hire myself a welder and do the job myself, or hire a professional?
I'm quite good at practical work but i don't know how difficult it would be?
how much am i looking at for both? problem is that i don't know anyone that could do it cheap which is annoying?

a welder is a handy tool to own, a small wire feed mig welder is perfect for sheet metal, not the $200 walmart welder but the $400-$600 licoln, hobart, centurey, miller, a name brand, you can get 30-155amp models that run off standard 110v house current and can weld plate steel up to 3/16 thick using flux core wire with no gas, to use hard core or solid wire requires gas CO2 or argon mix, the 220v welders are 60-300amps not good for sheet metal and must use gas with any wire because they are so hot, mig welding is easy to learn its like using a hot glue gun, just practice for a hour and you can weld sheet metal easily, its a good investment if you like working on cars
