Does propane expire.....................................?
I bought a BERNZOMATIC torch kit about two years ago. Just took it out of the package and the darn thing won't light. I hear the propane sloshing inside and there is plenty of pressure. I'm confused.
Thanks guys. To clarify. I can hear the hiss of the gas coming out. I just can't get it to ignite.
I agree with other responders that it is the torch itself that is the issue, not the propane container. Propane has a pretty narrow flammability range of 2.5 - 9.5. If there is too much air OR too much fuel it will not ignite.
Have you tried lighting it with a match (don't use a cigarette lighter) or are you using a flint lighter? An open flame is the best way to light a propane appliance, especially when you are trying to diagnose one that is acting up. Put the flame in front of the burner FIRST. Then turn on the control slowly. It may light then. But you probably will have to use some compressed air to blow out the torch tip and air venturi holes in it first.
Oh...and No! propane does not expire. That is why it is such a god choice for stand by generators. The fuel does not degrade like diesel or gasoline does.
