What happened with my Pentax K-1000 slr?
Hi all. When I tried to use my pentax this morning, i took of the lens cover as usual and going to take pictures.. but when I look through the viewfinder, nothing shows up, like pure darkness (I can see nothing just like looking through with the lens cover on..) It still works fine yesterday.. Anyone knows what happened with my camera? =[ Is the prism inside broken? Any way of fixing it?? =[
Since the Pentax K1000 was one of the most basic 35mm SLRs of its day, mirror lock-up is a feature it did not have.
A more likely cause of your problem is a sticky mirror bumper - a thin rubber cushion the mirror bumps against when it swings up to allow the light entering the lens to expose your film as the shutter fires. Deterioration due to age causes the rubber to get sticky and it can "trap" the mirror in the up position. To see if this is the case, remove the lens and observe where the mirror is. If its in the up position then leave it alone and plan on having the camera serviced. Do not touch the mirror.
