Can a metal wire ignite a gas like WD40?
Im making a potato gun and I know how to make one but Im working on the igniter. Do I need a spark or if i connect a battery to the wires could it ignite the gas when it heats up?
Based on the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for WD-40, it should be pretty flammable:
Aliphatic Petroleum Distillates 45-50%
Petroleum Base Oil 15-25%
LVP Hydrocarbon Fluid 12-18%
Carbon Dioxide 2-3%
Sounds as though it would go boom with a spark, although you could probably also use a glow plug if that's what you're referring to when you talk about the battery and wires.
