Are there any good looking welding jackets?
I am a young welder and I know it shouldn't really matter but hey I need to to look good at work too. Ha. What I'm looking for is a cotton and leather sleeve jacket, but one that's not that nasty green or old fashion blue jean colors. Maybe a light or dark gray and possibly black ones. I'm hopping for those colors because it will already go with my work shirts that are gray. So I don't look like an odd ball sticking out like a sore thumb.
The only thing that matters in a welding jacket is that it's comfortable and it protects you from heat, UV rays, and burning steel spatter.
At the end of the day you are going to have grease, black dust, smoke, and bits of metal shavings all over you. Your hair will be totally messed up and your face will be streaked with black dust. This isn't high school and nobody gives a $&*# what you look like- as long as what you're wearing gives sufficient protection, and as long as you get the job done. At the end of the day everyone at your shop will look (and smell) equally like hobos. If you don't look dirty as hell, chances are you're not pulling your share of the workload.
Furthermore if your pretty new jacket looks good when you bought it, it won't look so good after 3-4 days on the job. it'll have grease and black stuff all over it.
